At 8:23 p.m., Sarah Bennett signed the contract that was supposed to change everything.

The office tower was almost empty.

She believed him when he said the club membership helped him network, even though the invoices always landed in Sarah’s inbox.

She believed him when he called their life “ours” in public and treated the bills like hers in private.
