“Seize her!” Patricia Whitaker screamed across the ballroom, and every polished surface in that room seemed to catch the sound and throw it back at me.

I stood beside table twelve.

My champagne flute was untouched.

My black satin clutch was in my left hand.

My right hand stayed loose at my side.
