Michael Morales had been standing at the kitchen table with a spoon in one hand and a tired smile he had been saving for his daughter after a long day.

The chicken noodle soup was still steaming from the pot, and the smell of pepper and carrots filled the little kitchen.

Now she was sitting at his kitchen table asking him to believe her before anyone else taught him not to.
