My skin prickled.

My mother went pale.

“What amendment?” he asked.

Grandma continued.

The word notary moved through the guests like a draft.
“Rose,” my mother whispered.
Grandma ignored her.

A few people shifted in their seats.

The floor seemed to tilt.

My father stepped forward.

Grandma’s eyebrows lifted.
